Named after the spices whose trade route shaped our world today, Sugar Nutmeg curated conversations with Southeast Asian artists, academics, writers, scholars, and thinkers, discussing cultural, political & socioeconomic issues in the region and exploring the complex and intricate history, culture, and anthropology. Between 2014-2022, Alexandra Kumala worked in NY Theatre, performing in Off-Broadway productions including the Obie-winning revival of The Skin Of Our Teeth (Theatre for A New Audience), Houseworld (New York Magazine Critic’s Picks, Time Out Critic’s Pick), A Modest Proposal at the historic Cherry Lane Theatre, as well as many other developmental readings, workshops, and ensemble-devised pieces.
