Textures & Details
Someone once said a filmmaker isn’t just a filmmaker; we have to think like a painter. Another told me that there is a parallel between dreaming and drawing.
Complementary to my filmmaking process, my painting practice emerged as a restorative, playful, and whimsical counterpoint to the intense work and heavy topics in theatre and film. I first began this art therapy practice during a return to Indonesia after a decade abroad, and the subsequent 2-year journey across the archipelago. Painting has since become a peaceful, carefree way to process grief, rage, belonging, displacement, transformation, loss, and all the emotions that transcend language. My process is intuitive and instinctual, letting the drips and splatters lead the journey. I work entirely by hand with sustainable materials and archival paper. No AI ever involved!
My paintings and drawings have been reproduced internationally, including at Sheraton properties, and decorate private homes in Singapore, Seoul, Bali, Seattle, Bandung, and Jakarta. I enjoy collaborating with art consultants, interior designers, and collectors on commissions, licensing, and site-specific pieces.
